Welcome back to school everyone! We are still collecting boxtops for a couple of more weeks.
Language Arts
Today we reviewed Language Arts skills for morning work. We took our spelling pretest over compound words. We introduced this weeks vocabulary words -, injury, slurp, mournful, shrieks, sympathy, decency, delivering, and bulletin board and reviewed this week's skill - idioms. We also talked about our comprehension skill- making inferences. You make an inference by taking what the author tells you and adding in what you know to come up with new information that the author does not tell you. We read this week's story, Shiloh.
Our RIT words include:
Point of view - The person telling the story.
Personification - Giving a non-human object human like qualities. The door stood guard over the meeting.
Plot - The events in a story.
Blank Verse - An un-rhymed poem with regular rhythm.
First Person - When the narrator of the story is also the main character. Shiloh is told in first person because Marty is the narrator and the main character.
We also went to the library today and Mrs. Slater stopped by to teach us about conflict resolution. Our focus today was on I-messages. The kids should have brought home a letter about this today.
Math
Today we used a compass to solve measuring problems. We also learned about adjacent, vertical, and straight angles. Homework is math boxes and study link 3.5.
Health
We talked about the major changes a family can go through and how families need to support each other during those changes. Homework is Lesson checkup 2.1 numbers 1-4.
