Welcome Back!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break!

Language Arts~
We are done with our novel study and back working in our green reading book.  This week we are reading "Snowflake Bently."  This story is all about a man who took photographs of snowflakes.  Our comprehension skill is main ideas and details.  Our vocabulary includes these words: technique, foolishness, inspire, evaporate, microscope, magnify, negatives, and blizzard.  You can help us out if you have any negatives of photos to show the kids.   Our vocabulary skill is multiple-meaning words.  Our spelling skill is compound words.  Our grammar skill is irregular past tense verbs.

Don't forget the reading project for 2nd quarter is due tomorrow.  The wax museum is on Wednesday.  Students will have 10-15 minutes to change into their costumes.  We talked today about the wax museum and I reminded the students that they can use note cards to remind themselves what they need to present.  They may not read from their report.

There is no weekly homework this week.

Students will be expected to use cursive writing for all language arts assignments starting with the 3rd quarter. All cursive, all the time starts on Tuesday, January 11th.

Math~
We are starting the new year with a bang.  Today we took the mid-year test in math.  The students were allowed to use their student reference books for review.  This will help me see what needs to be reviewed as we move into journal 2.

No homework today.

Science (Grannan)~
Today we graded morning work and intoduced ourselves to magnets.  We read about magnets in our sciencesaurus and then we watched a Bill Nye, the Science Guy video about magnetism.  We also completed a "quiz" while we watched the movie.
No homework.
