Monday's News and Notes.....

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
Language Arts~
We had a very busy day today!  We started off in music and in the library.  Then we came back to the classroom and took our spelling pretest.  The students protested that there would be no homework.  That doesn't mean that there are no assessments.  We will still have a spelling test and the weekly assessments on Friday.  We reviewed possessive pronouns.  Our story this week is called "Adelina's Whales."  Our vocabulary includes rumbling, snoring, unique, dove, massive, tangles, and politicians.  Our vocabulary skill is homographs.  Our comprehension skill is sequencing.

The I Love to Read Challenge continues this week.  Remember that no homework will be assigned as long as students are reading at least 30 minutes a night this includes weekends.  So for no homework to be assigned next week students are expected to read at least 150 minutes this week (Sunday - Thursday).  We will be collecting the calendars on Friday.

Math~
We began unit 8 today.  Today we started talking about perimeter.  Study link 8.1 and math boxes 8.1 were assigned for homework.

Science~
Today we continued our investigation of electricity.  We learned about conductors and insulators and used an open circuit to detect for these objects in the classroom.  We learned that most conductors are metals and that the way we can tell is if the metal object closes the circuit and lets the electricity flow.  We also learned that metal that is covered with something acts like an insulator.  No homework.
