Bus Safety Day!

Today we took a few moments to learn about what to do in a bus emergency.  The kids did a great job being active listeners and participants.

HW:  Keep working on Weekly Homework

Math:  Today we learned about the friendly number strategy for division.  If you are dividing a 3digit number by a one digit number, this strategy allows you to do the work in your head.  For example  789/6 can be thought of as (720+69)/6.  720/6 is 120 and 69/6 is 11R3.  That means the answer to 789/6 is 131R3.
HW:  Study Link and Math Boxes 4.1

Science:  We took a test over chapter 2.

A new week....

Welcome back to a new week of learning!

Language Arts~
Today we went to music and IMC.  We came back and pretested this week's spelling words.  The spelling skill is how to spell long vowel sounds.  The words seem a bit trickier than last week.  We then previewed this week's RIT words:
Caricature - A distored characther resluting from the author's deliberate exaggeration of a trait or personality.  For example, Davy Crockett in our story is a caricature of the real Davy Crockett.
Structure - The formal pattern of a work.  Poetry often has a set structure.  Sentences also follow a structure of having a subject and a predicate.
Setting - The physical background of a story.  It includes the time and place.
Plot - The events of a story.
Genre - The type of the story.  This week it is a legend.

Our comprehension skill for the week focuses on plot and setting.  Knowing the structure of a story helps us to comprehend the story better.  Our new vocabulary includes: original, wring, advertisement, commenced, fireball, impress, elected and sauntered.  Our vocabulary skill is compound words.  Our grammar skill is reviewing subjects and predicates.
