Language Arts~
Today we began a new story. Our focus this week is Forests of the World. It is a short story. Our vocabulary words include: quest, settings, reduce, buffet and major. Our vocabulary skill is homographs and dictionary work. Our comprehension skills are recognizing text structure and compare and contrast. Our spelling lists include words with a vowel sound like the sound you hear in boot, cute, and book. Our grammar skill is combining sentences using conjunctions.
RIT words:
Graphic Organizer: A visual representation of information. For example using a venn diagram to compare and contrast.
Expostion: Writing that explains something.
Context: The part of a statement that surround a words and influences it's meeting. The word bill could be the mouth of a duck or something you owe.
Compare: To look for ways two things are similar.
Contrast: To look for ways that two things are different.
HW: Weekly work and to pick a tree to research.
Math~
Today we looked at tessellations. Tessellations are a geometric pattern that cover a surface with no gaps or overlaps. We also reviewed adjacent angles.
HW: Math Boxes 3.8 and study for vocabulary quiz tomorrow. Test is on Friday!
Science (W)~
Today we looked at how to make large numbers understandable. We also made a scale model of our solar system. The Sun is many, many times larger than the largest planet! Scale models help us to understand thing we could never travel to.
HW: None but your test over chapter 2 is next Monday!
