Good Afternoon!
Don't forget that tomorrow is PBA Day. School starts 2 1/2 hours late. Buses also run 2 1/2 hours late.
Tomorrow night is Dazzle Craft Night from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Language Arts
Today we practiced our handwriting and learned more Greek and Latin roots. We also had reading buddies and had our wrap-up session on bullying. There was a good discussion about the bullying that goes on at recess and different ways to stop the bullys in their tracks. The students then wrote a letter to me about bullying. Last week's assessments are coming home today. We spent some time going over the weekly assessment. The students seem to have a bit of a problem with it overall. Students are also having a hard time understanding possessives. We will continue to review and revisit these skills.
Math
Today we reviewed mental math concepts and then worked on division with decimals. The students really enjoyed using the partial quotients method. They like that it is a little more fool proof. If you need a review of the method please see the link that I blogged about on Monday.
Science
Today we tried to light 2 light bulbs using one d-cell and make the light bulbs bright. We discovered that the trick was to use a parallel circuit. A parallel circuit allows the electricity to follow more than one pathway. The pathways ususally come together at the battery. Students also got all the notes for this section of science to use as a study guide. The students will need to be able to apply these notes when it comes time for the test.
