Our schedule is a little messed up Monday-Thursday of this week due to MAP testing.
Math - We MAP tested today. No homework.
Language Arts - Today we reviewed language arts skills. We took our spelling pretest and began looking at linking verbs. We went to the IMC. We also read our story of the week, My Great-Grandmother's Gourd. Our vocabulary words for the week include brimming, gushed, landscape, scorching, parched, scrawny, gnarled, and progress. Our comprehension skill of the week is compare and contrast. Our focus is to see how Fatima's feelings about her grandmother change throughout the story.
Here are our RIT words: Allusion - a reference to a famous person, place, thing, or idea.
Caricature - A distorted character resulting from the author's deliberate exaggeration of a trait or traits of personality.
Parody - A funny imitation of a serious piece of writing.

On Wednesday, we will be visiting the planetarium during Langauge Arts time.
Weekly homework is assigned this week.
We began working on our published books today. Students need to edit page 1 with an adult for homework tonight. All pages should be in cursive - not typed. We will type at the end.
Science - Welcome back, Homeroom Kids! Today we began our earth materials unit by watching a movie about rocks and minerals. Tomorrow we investigate!
