I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. It has been a busy day here at Northpoint.....
Language Arts
We watched a video of coming attractions today. The book fair opens a week from today in the IMC. It looks like they will have a lot of great books this year. Students will visit the book fair during their regular IMC time. So my class will need to be prepared on Monday. The book fair is open after school all next week as well.
We spent part of the morning taking last week's assessments. We also took a pretest over this week's words in spelling, discussed the use of possessive pronouns in grammar. We introduced this week's vocabulary words: damages, atmosphere, property, destruction, available, hurricanes, contact, and surge. We listened to the story on on CD. This week's comprehension skill is analyzing text structure. The story describes hurricanes and uses time order words to organized the text.
We went to IMC.
Math
Today we talked about multiplying fractions. All we have to multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators. Sometimes we have to reduce or simplify the answer. Our homework is study link 8.6 and8.7 (Don't do problems 1-3 on 8.6) Study links are due tomorrow. Problem of the Week was also assigned for this week. It is due on Friday. The key to the Problem of the Week it so make a list of all the possible combinations. It also helps to make the list in order. Start with the biggest coins and work toward the smallest coins.
Science
Today we confirmed that calcite was present in marble and limestone. We did this by looking at the residue that was left in the evaporation dishes after the vinegar was evaporated out. Our science test will be next Monday. Students have notes from each investigation. They should be reviewing those notes daily.
