Language Arts
Double specials today! Music and then IMC. We came back to class and took the vocab vine quiz followed by our spelling pretest. Our grammar minute and grammar skill both had to do with run-on sentences. Our story for the week is "The Raft" Our vocabulary: disgusted, raft, scattered, cluttered, downstream and nuzzle. Our comprehension skill is making inferences about a story based on setting.
RIT words
Haiku - A Japanese form of poetry, consisting of 3 unrhymed lines of 5-7-5 syllables. traditionally about nature or the seasons.
Analogy - A comparison of certain similarities between things which are otherwise unlike.
Colloquialism - an expression that is usually accepted in informal situation and certain locations.
exaggeration - to represent something as greater than it actually is.
oxymoron - A statement with 2 parts which seem contradictory. (yelled quietly)
HW: Get started on weekly homework.
Math
Today we reviewed two ways to add numbers. In partial sums you add each place value and then add your answers. In column addition you add each column of numbers and then regroup. Student Reference Books will come in handy tonight.
HW: Study Link 2.6 and 2.7. Math boxes 2.7 Journal pages 42 and 43 were done in class. Word to the wise: Study Link 2.7 has a front and a back. :)
Science (Woods)
Today we began the map-making process of our school yard models. We discussed bird's eye view, cartographers, maps, and grids.
