We hope to see you at the Fall Festival tonight. Many parents have been helping to set up all week long. It looks like they have a great evening planned for us! We saw some really cool prizes this afternoon.
Language Arts
We talked about idioms today and reviewed the different parts of a sentence. We also completed an art project that highlights the four different types of sentences.
Yesterday the 2nd 9 weeks book project came home. We already have one turned in!
I counted up the reading minutes for the first 9 weeks yesterday. Please remember that it is a Northpoint expectation that every 4th and 5th grader read between 20-30 minutes a night. Please record those minutes on the agenda. I will be checking minutes periodically.
Math
Today was a game day. Our games reviewed the following skills: prime and composite numbers, mental math, the attributes of polygons, and reading, writing, and identifying large numbers.
Science
Yesterday we learned about a series circuit. In a series circuit the components share access to the d-cell. Today we learned about parallel circuits. When components are in parallel circuits, each component has direct access to the d-cell. What does all this mean? The d-cell can support more components in a parallel circuit. Plus the light bulbs are brighter while using less electricity. On Monday, we are going to apply this to a real life situation. Anyone ever wonder why that when one bulb goes out in a string of lights, all the other bulbs go out too? We will try to solve that problem.
Have a great weekend!!!
