Box-tops for Education
The school is collecting box-tops for education through Friday, October 17, 2008. These little pieces of cardboard help the school and PTO get free items for the school. Please send in the box-tops with your student.
Picture Retake Day
A student asked when we were having our picture retake day. The answer is on Wednesday, October 22. All retakes will happen in the morning.
Language Arts
We started new skills this week. Our spelling words are based on consonant clusters. Our grammar skill is looking at singular and plural nouns. Our vocab skill is the origin of words and our comprehension skill is making inferences. You make an inference when you take what the author tells you and combine it with what you already know to form new knowledge.
Fluency and Flow was assigned for homework. Here are this week's expectations.
Part 1. Read the story to an adult and have the adult sign the paper.
Part 2. Answer the questions on page 201 about the story, "My Diary, From Here to There"
Part 3. Do the word workout orally and have an adult sign.
Part 4. Match the words in the word bank to the correct story on the skill page.
Part 5. (optional) Create the picket signs mentioned in the word workout section.
Math
We began unit 3 day and discussed how we can use the number of degrees in a circle to figure out the number of degrees in an angle. Study Link 3.3 is the homework.
Science
Today we discovered what happens when two magnets get farther and farther apart. The magnetic force becomes less powerful. Tomorrow we are going to discover how we can find hidden magnets. There will be a magnet quiz on Thursday!
